Our Discovery of EcoVillage Communities

Greetings Earthlings!

For the past 2 years we, my husband and I and our 2 youngest children, have been living in Ecovillages, or some call Intentional Communities. Usually found at least 30 miles from any town, an Ecovillage is a large piece of land where many people live together, helping one another, and sharing the burdens that come with homestead living. Sharing common gathering areas like a large Kitchen or Hearth, media building, and gathering halls, then the showers (even outdoor solar showers!), and laundry stations. Then surrounding the communal spaces everyone has their own living dwellings of various sorts...like earthen buildings of Cobb or Mud Huts, Hobbit Holes dug into the side of a hill, Yurts, Tents, Geo domes, Earthships, even old buses converted into Tiny Homes!

We started at Windspirit Community in an 8 person dome tent, moved into one of the converted RVs, then into a hexagonal Cobb House with a loft on the top of a hill. At that point we really simplified. Since we no longer had room for all the furniture in our new tiny house, and wouldn't have a way to get it all up the hill anyway, we let go of everything we didn't need in our new simple life. Now we spend our days together as a family, helping one another learn how to live the way Earthlings were meant to live...in harmony with nature, using the natural resources that the indigenous people have known about for thousands of years. If you know where to look, nature already provides everything you need, whether it's food, clothing or medicine, it can be found magically growing all on it's own, right here all around us! We have strayed so far away from our Sacred Mother, who has always provided everything we need, still always giving, and giving. While consumerism just keeps pulling and pulling us farther away.
The ''Turt" in its 1st stages

Hence the Movement...Back To The Earth! An Ecovillage is a place where I can learn all those ways to reconnect with our Sacred Mother, and more! And the place we have found ourselves to be right now is right in the Heart of Sacred Earth Community, a cluster of communities all working towards off grid sustainable living. The one we live in now is named Terra Sante, which means Sacred Earth, and is a living laboratory of sustainability. We are now considered one of the newest living experiments. We have taken an extra large canvas army tent, and are turning it into a fully functioning, off grid, spacious and comfortable, portable homestead in a box! Taking the idea of the Yurt kits and making it squared and more spacious. "It's not just a Tent, it's not quite a Yurt, it's a Turt!" To read more you can follow the links for the building of our Turt. It's a story all of its own!

I now try to grow what I can, learning to grow indoors year round. And what I can't grow, I look for in the surrounding nature, such as Mesquite or Arundo Roots for flower. Then I purchase what I can in organics, and create my own household and beauty products for the whole family. I have been really nurturing my Arundo patch, and will soon be doing a blog on the milling of my own flour! It's also time to harvest the Chaparral, which is such an amazing plant medicine of it's own!
